Team Broken Earth – Haiti

By , and | Posted to this site on: Oct 24, 2013

A team lead by Dr. David Amirault and Dr. Chad Coles will be heading to Haiti on November 16 − 22, 2013.

This group consists of 18 health care professionals, nurses and doctors from all areas of medicine.

We are teaming up with Broken Earth, an organization out of Newfoundland is lead by another Orthopaedic surgeon, Andrew Furey.    They have been in Haiti several times and have recruited teams from Calgary and now Halifax.

We have surgeons, physicians, nurses, residents and fellows on this trip from the QEII and IWK, and we hope to expand for our next visit.

The plan is to go back to Haiti twice a year, and the goal of Broken Earth is to recruit teams from across Canada so the hospital can be fully staffed all year.  The teams from Canada help with patient care as well as teaching the local doctors and nurses.

We hope to raise enough funds for all teams members to travel without paying themselves and to purchase needed equipment for the hospital in Haiti.
